Responsibilities

The Tax Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Tax Department, which has responsibility for income, franchise/net worth, property, and sales/use taxes.  The position reports directly to the CFO and will supervise two (2) employees.

  • Work directly with the CFO on developing and implementing tax planning strategies, including identification of exposures and opportunities.
  • Lead and manage federal, state and local tax authority audits (income, sales/use, and property).
  • Regularly monitor federal, state and local law changes that may impact the Company. (Perform additional research, as needed, on the law changes).
  • Point-of-contact for tax related questions from within the organization, performing research as needed. Point-of-contact for financial statement auditors for tax matters.
  • Prepare periodic updates to effective tax rate and maintain projections of cash tax payments.
  • Manage preparation of year-end tax provision (IFRS), including tax footnote disclosure for annual report and tax related schedules required by foreign parent for quarterly and annual reporting.
  • Maintain the uncertain tax position reserve analysis (income and non-income taxes) along with proper supporting documentation.
  • Review federal and state quarterly estimated payments, ensuring payments are cash efficient but adequate to avoid underpayment interest/penalties.
  • Review and supervise the preparation of the federal and state income/franchise tax returns. Research issues as needed, assisting in preparation of more complex book to tax adjustments, and documenting key items and issues.
  • Review monthly sales & use tax returns.
  • Review and supervise the preparation of the annual reports.
  • Review and supervise the preparation of the property tax returns.
  • Review and supervise the preparation of Forms 1042 and 1120F.
  • Review of payments to foreign vendors to ensure compliance with US tax withholding obligations.
  • Respond to tax related inquiries from foreign parent companies.
  • Special projects as they arise.

Qualifications

  • BS in Accounting; CPA or Masters in Taxation required
  • 8 - 10 years of experience with 3-4 years in public accounting is preferred, experience with indirect taxes a plus
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and project management skills 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail oriented but also able to see and understand the “big picture"
  • Experience with a large, multi-state manufacturing consolidated group 
  • Familiarity with the preparation of year-end tax provision calculations, related footnote disclosures, and effective tax rate updates 
  • Ability to prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks/projects
