Responsibilities

  • Primarily fill in for the Quarry Supervisor and Shipping Supervisor when they are absent due to vacation, sickness or other reasons (ex. Cover for weekend operation and repairs). When not filling in for Quarry and Shipping, he/she will be assigned to other supervisory duties within Maintenance and Production departments.
  • Manage the personnel of the department being covered and coordinate with other departments to ensure optimum performance of the plant.
  • Responsibilities also include anything within the realm of responsibility that are assigned by your supervisor whether or not they are specifically covered in this job description.
  • Operate departments to provide the maximum production within the established environmental limits and quality standards.
  • Coordinate with Quarry Supervisor and Shipping Supervisor’s needs for weekend coverage.
  • Will be required to be part of the on-call schedule for Quarry, Shipping, Production and Maintenance (published and maintained by the Production and Maintenance departments.
  • Follow company standard operating procedures for Plant, Quarry and Shipping operations while ensuring efficient utilization of equipment.
  • Ensure all employees and contractors conduct their tasks in a safe manner consistent with company policies and MSHA regulation
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, plans and programs.
  • Ensure compliance with all quality standards.
  • Keep records of equipment operation and reasons for production delays in the company database software.
  • Directs personnel to ensure the orderly operation of the plant environment.
  • Ensure that the plant is run in a manner to avoid serious damage to equipment.
  • Supervise all employees on his/her shift
  • Must be familiar with entire operation from quarry to cement silos plus maintenance operations and yard responsibilities to be able to relieve the regular supervisor in these operations.
  • Makes frequent inspections of the Quarry, Shipping and Plant checking equipment operation and employee assignments. Prepares daily time sheets and mill reports.  Supervises various departments on overtime and weekends in accordance with instructions from appropriate supervisor(s) and/or plant management.Requisitions materials, tools and other equipment from stores, as needed, in order to complete assigned duties.Make recommendations regarding equipment problems, personnel problems or safety concerns.
  • Investigates and reports on accidents involving employees and equipment. Promotes and enforces safe working practices and good housekeeping.
  • Maintains current knowledge of collective bargaining agreement and related plant policies. Seeks opportunities to promote and instill an attitude of cost and profit consciousness among fellow employees.
  • Continue self-improvement activities especially in the area of cement production or improved techniques for supervising wage role workers.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalency
  • 2 years supervisory experience or 5 years working in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment preferred
  • Ability to work rotating shifts to support 24/7 plant operations
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
  • Basic computer skills
  • Strong decision skills, with the ability to function successfully in a stressful environment.
