Responsibilities

The Internal Business Controls Senior Specialist is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining a robust internal control framework that ensures operational efficiency, financial integrity, regulatory compliance, and effective risk management.

This role supports the CFO function, enhances compliance with recommendations from Internal Audit, and partners with cross-functional teams to streamline, automate, and optimize control activities for both BU USA and Alamo.

 

Internal Control Framework & Risk Management

  • Design, implement, and maintain a comprehensive internal control environment aligned with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Conduct risk assessments and identify key areas for control improvement; prioritize risk-based mitigation strategies.
  • Standardize, automate, and simplify internal controls to reduce redundancies and focus on addressing key business risks.

Audit Coordination & Compliance

  • Address recommendations from Internal Audit's Operational audits; create actionable remediation plans and track resolution progress.
  • Coordinate and participate in process walkthroughs with internal stakeholders and external auditors.

Policy and Procedure Development

  • Collaborate with process owners to develop, document, and update internal policies and procedures to strengthen governance and accountability.

Training & Communication

  • Develop and deliver training and awareness programs on internal controls and compliance responsibilities across the organization.
  • Serve as a key liaison for internal control-related inquiries from internal teams and external auditors.

Technical Accounting & Special Projects

  • Conduct research to support new pronouncements and non-routine transactions.
  • Lead or participate in special projects and initiatives as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in internal controls, risk management, compliance, or audit.
  • CPA, CIA, CISA, or other relevant certifications preferred.
  • Strong understanding of internal control frameworks (e.g., COSO) and applicable regulations.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to collaborate across functions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other financial systems/tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail.
