Responsibilities

The purpose of the Corporate Electrical Project Engineering position, with a primary emphasis on Electrical power distribution, is to develop and support departmental project managers by taking responsibility to directly or indirectly generate and/or outsource electrical engineering and its associated project related activities as required to define and implement large and mid-sized CAPEX types of projects.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Directly define, implement and support all capex and plant level projects assigned.
  • Support corporate Project Managers in the successful definition, implementation and completion of electrical portions of capex and/or plant level projects assigned.
  • Take responsibility for and create conceptual electrical scopes of work and design documentation necessary for MV-LV power distribution systems, protection schemes and motor applications along with the installation of such.  A secondary level of support may include that for  LV Control, and Instrumentation systems, excluding automation.
  • Generate budgets for electrical projects assigned including present and future.
  • Create project specific electrical scopes of work, divisions of responsibilities and specifications, which define overall electrical guidelines and requirements for engineering, equipment supply, installation, and testing.
  • Assist in the packaging and revisions to form-contracts as may be required for outside electrical engineering, equipment procurement, electrical construction, and testing services.
  • Oversee, direct and validate all in-house and out-sourced engineering design services.
  • Specify, procure and purchase electrical power distribution, control/instrumentation and PLC/IO hardware types of equipment such as:
    • Power Services, Substations, Transformers, Switchgear, Protective devices, Motor Controllers, Motors, Field Control and Instrumentation devices, PLC IO and network cabinets, general Branch system distribution equipment, Lighting, Heat tracing, etc.
  • Initiate and take responsibility for the development and packaging of final electrical design and installation related document packages. Key documents may include:
    • Electrical Flow Diagrams, PIDs, Load and Equipment/Device lists, Power One-Line diagrams, Schematic Wiring Diagrams, Field Wiring Diagrams, PLC/IO Cabinet Assemblies, General Arrangements, Electrical Room arrangements, Raceway/Equipment Block Diagrams, Raceway and Cable Arrangements along with associated Cable Schedules, Grounding and Lighting Arrangements, Heat tracing, etc.
  • Assist in project status reviews and oversight with a focus on quality, budget, schedule, and cost control forecasting.
  • Generate monthly project reports for upper management review.
  • Update monthly job accounting reports for projects assigned.
  • Travel to plant sites to attend project meetings, and to offer project oversight and technical support as required for project scopes of work and constructability requirements.
  • Oversee project on-site electrical commissioning and startup activities, many of which are typically outsourced.
  • Assist all plant level electrical personnel in electrical equipment and operations issues as can be deemed helpful and beneficial.
  • Assist in developing and/or updating corporate electrical standards, such as: Project, Equipment, Installations, etc.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering required
  • At least eight (8) years of electrical experience in industrial power distribution projects, with a preference of such being in the cement or minerals industries
  • A strong working history and interest in industrial electrical power distribution systems and motor applications
  • Knowledge of large industrial motors and associated motor control is preferred 
  • A proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Products is required (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Schedule)
  • A working knowledge of AutoCAD is preferred
  • A working knowledge of SKM Power system Study software and associated design methods is preferred but not required
  • The candidate is to have good inter-personal communication, verbal and written skills (English Language)
  • Knowledgeable in electrical engineering design, construction methodology and construction execution are required
  • Capable to multi-task and support multiple projects concurrently
  • Working knowledge of the NFPA 70 NEC National Electrical Code, NPFA 70E and other Industry accepted Electrical Standards (IEEE, IAS, NEMA, UL, etc.) is required
  • MSHA Safety certification is preferred but not required. Training will be provided if necessary.
  • A knowledge of cement plant operations and equipment types utilized in such is preferred 
  • Candidate is to be motivated, well organized, and detail oriented
  • Candidate must be willing and able to work independently to develop, coordinate, and perform project activities with the help and interaction of other corporate engineers and managers, site and plant representatives, engineering firms, testing firms, contractors, and equipment suppliers
  • Will be required to travel and work at Buzzi Unicem USA plant and terminal sites. Travel away from the home office is expected to be about 30%-40% of the time annually during weekdays for the initial engineering and scope development phases of a project.  Special startups may require additional on-site time support
  • It is beneficial if the candidate is willing to relocate to the Bethlehem, PA area for proximity to the other members of this team in the Corporate Office
